Senator Antonio Trillanes IV claims that President Rodrigo Duterte’s story of how he killed suspected criminals when he was still mayor of Davao City was different from what he was told. Trillanes talks about it in an interview on the phone with ANC’s “Dateline Philippines”.
Trillanes says that the discrepancy of the story told to him by Duterte was that he emptied a couple of magazines when some arrested “kidnappers” were unarmed and already kneeling down.
In an ambush interview with ABS-CBN News on Saturday, Duterte said he killed people during his third month as mayor. He specified that he shot suspected criminals from the window using a carbine.
Trillanes said the admission of Duterte is already a ground for impeachment. However, he said the country’s current political situation would probably not allow it. It means that the political situation is predominantly pro-Duterte and the public is giving him enough leeway to prove himself.
Despite this fact, Trillanes is hopeful that once the public realizes that the president’s war on drugs has nothing more to offer, people may feel differently. This change of feel will push to have impeachment cases to be filed “early next year”
