According to the Department of Health (DOH), free hospitalization for poor Filipinos needing medical attention from private hospitals may be possible.
In a News To Go interview with DOH Spokesperson Dr. Eric Tayag, they may include this in the guidelines they are preparing for free hospitalization.
Previously, Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rossel-Ubial announced that poor Filipinos need not worry about their hospital and medicine bills, as these will be free next year.
Ubial added that the Budget Department (DBM) paid last November the arrears of P32 billion from the P42 billion deficits of PhilHealth. This means that the Health Department is now in good financial standing.
The guidelines are expected to be finished before the years ends, he added.
However, the Health spokesperson clarifies that not all illnesses will be covered by the free hospitalization. They still have to choose which illnesses will be covered while ironing out the guidelines.
Despite this development, Tayag said they will still continue their programs on disease prevention.
